Introduced to clay as a medium later in life, my formal art education began many years ago with an inclination towards painting and illustration.  The artists from whom I drew inspiration were eclectic both in media and technique.  I often found myself exploring with a variety of materials, until I discovered clay as a form of expression. I had always wanted to explore the world of clay since I was a child, and my side-hustle working in a slip-cast ceramics studio in my late 20's fostered the urge to indulge.

Discovering how I could apply my previously learned skills to a three-dimensional piece was the motivator in moving my work forward. Painting, sculpture and printmaking are all learned techniques in which I apply to clay.  Using both wheel-thrown and hand-building skills, all pieces are electric kiln fired. My work is inspired by a life of environmental activism and a journey in self-discovery.  Clay has encouraged skill development working in two production slipcast studios, as a pottery teacher and studio technician.  I teach both wheel and hand building classes at the beginner and intermediate level.

The past five years has found me as a studio assistant to Susan Day, where I help create large-scale ceramic mosaic installations throughout Canada.  While between projects, I turn my focus to further developing my work through playing with colour, texture and design.  Inspired by what is witnessed around me in nature, the approach to my work is to inspire others to honour and respect our environment with integrity.
